Working with Children, Youth and Families: Skills to Build Resilience

Service providers who support children, youth and families have a stronger influence when they focus on protective factors that promote resilience. In this workshop, Dr. Michael Ungar (Canada Research Chair in Child, Family and Community Resilience and Family Therapist and Director, Resilience Research Centre) will explore children’s coping strategies and the social and physical ecologies that impact resilience. This places families, schools, service providers and communities in a better position to help children and youth navigate resources that promote well-being in ways meaningful to them. Dr. Ungar will provide ideas on how resilience-promoting resources can be made more available and accessible to people from diverse backgrounds.
