Planet Youth is launching a new youth-driven community music program in Lanark County.
Music influencers of all ages are coming together to co-design a series of creative ways for young people to be involved in the arts through music. This initiative is part of a Youth Engagement Through Music grant application with Gilles Comeau, senior scientist at the Institute of Mental Health Research at The Royal, and the founding director of the University of Ottawa Music and Health Research Institute. Self-expression, connection to community, and meaningful relationships are just some of the ways this will help young people to thrive. The project aims to have young people co-design a variety of music programs across Lanark County, anything from choirs, drum circles or guitar lessons to open mic events, punk, rock, or marching bands. Local musicians and music influencers (especially youth!) are starting to plan an initial opportunity for this fall.
